How pretty is this peony Christening cake? It’s perfect for a stylish party! We create a lot of different Christening cakes from semi-naked beauties finished with fresh roses to super cute designs adorned with fondant animals. All utterly fun, beautiful and unique to each special event. Every now and again it’s lovely to concentrate on a chic idea like this blush wash 2 tier with gold accents! We love how this design incorporates two gorgeous trends… subtle watercolour washes and a sparkling metallic! And who doesn’t love a luxurious touch of gold now and again?
One of our favourite parts of this peony Christening cake is Lily’s name! It’s striking and also pretty luxe too. The text was created 100% by hand (and with no template or guide). We used a caramel tinted fondant rolled out into a long and even ‘rope’. Quickly mapped out where we wanted it to sit and then went to work gently attaching to the front of the iced tier. It was then hand-painted with edible gold. Creating a scrolling text like this can be a bit stressful as you only get one attempt to get it perfect!
Chic peony Christening cake with blush and gold wash!
The gorgeous gold was carried on throughout the cake with the shimmering accent along the bottom tier. We wanted this to mimic the blush wash so it was layered on in carefree-style streaks. Gold was also used for the peony leaves and pistils.
The open peony itself is a pretty blush pink with fluffy stamens and hand-painted gold centres. We perched it angled upward onto the edge of the cake to give a lightweight feel to it. We then added long tapered gold leaves for extra height. If you know us then you’ll know we love to add a little height to our cakes… and foliage (real or sugar) is the perfect way to do this!
This was such a stunning cake for us to make. It’s always hard for us to see a cake leave us, however, they need to fulfil their party destiny! We hope little Lily and her guests enjoyed an amazing day!
Anyone who knows us will be pretty aware of our love for unicorns. This cutie with her blush and bubblegum pink mane, golden hooves and sweet little smile was definitely no exception. Perched on top of a fun two tier Christening cake surrounded with golden confetti, polka dots and bunting she was ready for Grace’s Christening!
Cute unicorn Christening cake!
The top blush pink tier was trimmed with edible fondant bunting in white with hand-painted polka dots, bubblegum pink and golden fondant finished with a tiny bow. Each bunting ‘flag’ is rolled out thin, measured and cut individually and then left to set with a slight curve at the tip. This is so they can look like they have a little movement and lightness to them. Once attached we then added the painted elements!
The unicorn Christening cake itself was our popular Classic Strawberry flavour (aka Victoria Sponge). It is fluffy vanilla cake filled with our fruity strawberry preserve and creamy Madagascan vanilla bean buttercream. Definitely a crowd pleaser! We love that the flavour matches the outside too
Golden confetti and polka dots just scream fun. Maybe we’re biased (just look at our logo…), but we absolutely love them. For this cute cake the golden elements help transform it into something sweet AND on-trend. Obviously, welovetoaddgoldfeaturesontoacake. The plain white bottom tier needed a little something so a flurry of gold painted polka dots were added. Then a variety of gold fondant confetti pieces were added on top of each tier, around the blush pink board and on top of the alphabet blocks spelling out Grace’s name!
Just another up-close shot of that pretty in pink unicorn! She’s too cute! We like to make every fondant character a little different so that everyone has a something completely unique. For this one we added a golden painted muzzle instead of the usual pastel type. We also used two different tones of pink (a blush and a bubblegum), grouped them and then twisted her hair into shape.
We hope Grace and her family had an amazing day at her Christening!
We make ALOTofsupercuteandmagicalunicorncakes&cupcakes. All of them utterly perfect for kids parties or Christenings! This time we were asked to make a more grown-up unicorn cake. Adorned with bubblegum pink macarons, pastel meringues, 24k gold leaf and a more pretty than adorable unicorn. We think this cake added the perfect amount of grown-up magic to the party!
Pretty pastel unicorn cake for a fun birthday party!
The pastel unicorn cake was covered in a silky whitened buttercream in our popular Strawberry Milkshake flavour. We then added a soft lavender ombré effect along the base before adding a mix of fun sprinkles. 24k edible gold leaf was then applied before a blush pink drip edged one side of this cutie!
A box full of matching party cupcakes accompanied this pastel unicorn cake! Some were rose swirls of white buttercream finished with 24k gold, others featured pink chocolate drizzles, sprinkles, pretty roses and pastel meringues!
Cute pastel unicorn cake and cupcakes!
We LOVE drip cakes as they’re usually loaded with so many sweet treats! This pastel dream cake was topped with a flurry of sprinkles (we used ‘Crush’ and ‘Pastel Princess’ both from Shire Bakery), pretty pink macarons, pastel turquoise meringue kisses and pink and lavender roses!
That magical unicorn on top? 100% hand crafted using zero moulds whatsoever. We studied and sketched a few stylised unicorns and horses before experimenting with fondant. In the end it needed to be pretty stable, but the pose couldn’t look static. We decided to have the unicorn stood on an edible cloud to make it durable and have one leg arched up! This also meant that the unicorn could stand a little higher than all the treats on top.
This sure was a fun order to make. What’s not to love right? Unicorn theme! Macarons! Cute colour palette!
